Adult Christian Education Christian education doesn’t stop after elementary school. At Cornerstone, our mission is to bring people to maturity in Christ and we believe that ongoing education for adults is a key component in that process. At Cornerstone, you will find a systematic approach to adult discipleship that makes use of the traditional Sunday School format, but with a few twists. Instead of dividing classes by age or stage, we give adults the opportunity to pursue a curriculum toward principled growth in Christ. And we try to make courses available at non-traditional times and in non-traditional ways, such as extended education. Click here for a list of Adult Education Classes currently being offered at Cornerstone Our core courses are taught on a regular rotation, allowing adults to shape their Christian walk around four cornerstones (our four core values): KNOW, FIT, GROW, SHARE. These words describe each of four ongoing courses on Bible interpretation, ministry, Christian growth, and evangelism. Our approach to these familiar subjects is probably not what you’d expect. Another distinctive of Christian education for adults at Cornerstone is our 101/201 Curriculum. Adult learners come with different levels of interest and experience in discipleship. For various classes in the areas of biblical studies, history and culture and Reformed theology, an introductory and a more advanced class is offered. For instance, we use R.C. Sproul’s Knowing Scripture as our basic course in biblical interpretation. For more advanced interests, we offer Bridging Two Worlds, a Bible-college level course in biblical hermeneutics. Finally, we are very interested in establishing and maintaining a Christian voice in culture, a witness of Christ through an open and public faith. We offer dialogue driven seminars to the public on such diverse topics as Christianity and Islam, Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, and Life at the Extremes (forthcoming bioethics seminar regarding crucial issues at the beginning and end of life). Sincerely, Bill Martin Director of Leadership Development
New Adult Education Classes offered at Cornerstone CHRISTIAN THINKING - 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm Wednesdays, beginning May 21, at Cornerstone Teachers: Bill Martin and Dave Dickmann Description: Some have said that the Bible is no better than a fairy tale and that those who believe it are irrational. Maybe you know someone who believes this and would like to be able to make a reply, or possibly you would just like to strengthen your convictions about the rationality of the Christian faith. Come join us as we take a look at Christian thinking. The course covers three main areas: Christian foundations of thought, reasoning and logic, and worldview analysis. It is hoped that all Cornerstone members will eventually take this course, and we particularly encourage teachers, attorneys, those considering the pastoral ministry, and college students to attend. The format will involve a mix of instruction, discussion and practical application for reasoning with our friends, neighbors and work associates. Space is limited and sign-up is required. Please indicate your interest on a connect card and place it in the offering bag, or call the church 907-3939, or e-mail Dave Dickmann at daved@onthecorner.org. SHARE Description: Have you ever wanted to personally communicate the gospel to a friend or neighbor but were unsure of how to initiate the conversation or not sure about what to say? Would you like to overcome the fears you may have about communicating the gospel? If so, then you should consider taking this course on personal evangelism. Feel free to join us at any time and learn how easy it can be to share the gospel and how you can effectively communicate the gospel of Christ! The SHARE class is over, but if you missed the class or would like a refresher, the notes and hand-outs from the class are available for you on website. Click here to access the notes.
